Nursing: Accelerated Second Degree (BSN)
Description
The Accelerated Second Degree Hybrid/Online Program is a track of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) offered by Indiana State University’s School of Nursing. This track is designed for students who already hold a bachelor's or higher degree in a non-nursing field.
The curriculum includes courses in nursing theory, leadership, research, pharmacology, health assessment, and patient care, as well as clinical rotations in a variety of healthcare settings. Overall, the program provides a fast and convenient path for career changers to pursue their passion for nursing and enter this in-demand field.
The program is a combination of online coursework and hands-on in-state and on-campus clinical experiences, allowing students to balance their education with other life responsibilities. The majority of theory and didactic components are delivered asynchronously in an online format. Clinical training is comprised of online simulation, on-campus skills training, and clinical practicum in community settings.
While Indiana residency is not required, it is strongly encouraged to facilitate visits to campus and outlying clinical sites since all clinicals must be completed in Indiana.
This full-time program is completed in 15 months (consecutive summer, fall, spring, and summer semesters). Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam to become registered nurses. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Inc. (ACEN) and the Indiana State Board of Nursing.

Careers
The baccalaureate degree program is recognized as the basic preparation for professional nursing practice. Graduates are prepared as generalists and, after passing the NCLEX-RN, may assume beginning leadership roles. In addition, the baccalaureate degree is foundational for graduate study in nursing.
There are many and varied employment opportunities for registered nurses who have a baccalaureate degree. In hospitals and other health care settings, baccalaureate nurses are practicing in ways that recognize their educational preparation and nursing competencies.
Baccalaureate nurses have complex nursing care responsibilities in providing patient care. They supervise other personnel who provide nursing care. They also collaborate with other health care professionals in developing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive plans of health care for patients of all ages in a variety of settings.
In addition, the University's Nursing Program is approved by the Indiana State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN).

Students have many sources of financial support for their studies, including financial aid, work-study programs, veterans' benefits, and special scholarships for entering freshmen and transfer students.
