Multidisciplinary Studies (BA, BS)

Description

The University offers a bachelor of arts (BA) and a bachelor of science (BS) in multidisciplinary studies.

The Multidisciplinary Studies major allows students to design a major across programs in the liberal arts and sciences. Majors either develop an Individualized Program of Study or choose from one of the faculty-designed Designated Concentrations. Currently available Designated Concentrations include Gender Studies, International Studies, Liberal Arts: Business Minor Track, Social Justice and Sociology, and Visual Arts Administration. Highly motivated students with multiple areas of interest or specialized career or professional goals will find the combination of flexibility and focus afforded by an Individualized Plan of Study or a Designated Concentration very attractive.

Academic advising is an important part of each student's academic program. Each student works with program faculty to create a plan of study. Students often complete field studies, internships, and independent research or creative projects as part of their programs.

Students benefit from relatively small classes taught by award-winning faculty who have a diversity of specialties. Most hold doctoral degrees, and many edit journals, publish books and articles, conduct research, and speak at national and international meetings within their specializations.

Special Note: The Multidisciplinary Studies Program is housed in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, and is offered in cooperation with the colleges of the University.
