Electronics Engineering Technology (BS)

Description

The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in electronics engineering technology.

This program provides the knowledge, skills, and management experience needed for technical and professional careers in instrumentation and control, technical sales and field services, electronics manufacturing, and electrical power operations.

Each student's program of study is arranged in a logical sequence, with study moving from the most basic concepts through highly technical principles. Several professional courses are offered to assist in the development of managerial skills.

Coursework includes study in the following areas:

  • Electronics technology or computer hardware technology, including concepts such as fundamentals, circuits and circuit design, digital fundamentals, solid state electronics, industrial control, microprocessors, and automation
  • Mathematics, computer fundamentals, and/or science

In addition, students complete the University's Foundational Studies Program, which provides the knowledge students need in critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal and communication skills.

Courses in the major are taught by full-time faculty. Small class sizes ensure each student has access to research laboratories and individualized assistance. Students have many opportunities for professional practice experience. Those participating in co-op or internship programs receive remuneration as well as excellent experience in the field.

Students benefit from specialized, well-equipped laboratories for study. The University's John T. Myers Technology Center has more than 20 state-of-the-art laboratories filled with the most up-to-date equipment and supplies.

A number of activities and organizations are available that enable students to interact with other students and professionals in the industry. These include ISA (the international society of Automation) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

Special Note: Students who transfer to the University with the appropriate associate degree may enroll in an online-based electronics engineering technology bachelor degree-completion program offered through the University's online learning program.
