Data Science (BS)

The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in data science, one of the fastest-growing career fields, with excellent salary and advancement opportunities. Data scientists use analytical tools and techniques to collect, organize, visualize, and analyze data to find patterns, make decisions, and solve problems. Their work is valued because they are uniquely capable of analyzing data to enable organizations to accomplish their goals.

Indiana State's bachelor's in data science offers students both a solid foundation, useful in a wide variety of roles, and the opportunity for concentrated study focused on the individual student’s interests and career goals.

Students complete a core of required mathematics and computer science courses in areas such as calculus, statistics, linear algebra, database structuring, discrete mathematics, multiple regression and machine learning, and programming.

Students tailor the final part of their studies to meet their interests and career goals by completing a concentration in one of the following areas:

• Business Analytics Concentration
• Geographic Information Science Concentration
• Computer Science  Concentration
• Bioinformatics Concentration

Upon completion of the program, students possess the essential skills they need to succeed, including analytical, computer, communication, logical thinking, math, and problem-solving skills.

Relatively modest class sizes allow students to work one-on-one with our highly talented and dedicated faculty. Advisors work with students in the selection of their courses prior to registration each semester.

Department opportunities include student chapters of Pi Mu Epsilon (the honorary mathematics fraternity) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). With more than 100 highly accessible student organizations on campus, each student's experience at Indiana State University abounds with student leadership opportunities that complement their studies.
